SOFT
In September, the 34th Symposium on Fusion Technology takes place in Aix-en-Provence, France. SOFT 2026 will once again bring together the global fusion community scientists, engineers, industry representatives, and exhibitors to share the latest results and breakthroughs across all areas of fusion technology. The conference will include invited talks, oral and poster presentations, and a large industry and technology exhibition. It will offer a unique opportunity for teams working on fusion experiments, test facilities, component development, materials science, and high-level design studies to meet, exchange ideas, and move forward together.

Bij DIFFER werken wetenschappers aan oplossingen voor de energie van onze toekomst. Schone, nieuwe vormen van energie. Een van die oplossingen is kernfusie, het nabootsen van de energie van de zon op aarde. Maar ook chemische energie, waarbij onderzoekers materialen bestuderen, nieuwe materialen ontdekken en onderzoeken hoe je energie kunt bewaren. DIFFER heeft daarvoor onderzoekslabs met apparaten waar onderzoekers uit de hele wereld gebruik van maken.
Big Science Business Forum
We are organising the Big Science Business Forum in Maastricht, the last week of October.
The aim is to give you the opportunity in your home country to connect with 20 Big Science Organisations, large and small and find out in two days in direct conversations with them whether your competences are a match for their needs and to determine whether it is worthwhile to invest in a relationship with them and start bidding for contracts. In addition, there are over 200 companies from Europe, who have similar interests and could be potential partners for collaborations in these Big Science tenders.

Industry Meeting: Sustainability in Big Science at HFML-FELIX
On 2 September, BigScience.NL brought together representatives from industry and research organisations at HFML-FELIX in Nijmegen for an industry meeting dedicated to sustainability. Marc Baldus, Director of HFML-FELIX and profile holder for sustainability within the Dutch NWO institutes, opened the meeting and set the stage for open and lively discussions on this important and timely topic.

Dutch Astronomical Instrumentation Community Shines at SPIE 2026 in Copenhagen

The astronomical engineering world gathered in Copenhagen for SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation, the leading international conference on ground-based, airborne, and space-based telescopes and the instruments that power them. The event drew more than 3,000 attendees from across the globe, who took part in 13 simultaneous technical conferences featuring over 3,000 presentations on the latest research, technology, and project developments in astronomical instrumentation.

Dutch Space Sector Connects at the 40th Annual Small Satellite Conference
23–26 August 2026, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
The Annual Small Satellite Conference (SmallSat) brought together around 5,000 government, industry, and academic professionals for technical papers, short courses, panels, and exhibits on the technologies driving today's small satellite constellations. Under the theme "The Clouds Above the Clouds," this year's edition celebrated 40 years of collaboration in a sector that has grown from a handful of pioneers into a global ecosystem powering navigation, Earth observation, and communications missions worldwide. Over the past four decades, the small satellite community has transformed from a dedicated few pioneers working on shoestring budgets into a global ecosystem of commercial, government, and academic innovators.
