De 9e International Particle Accelerator Conference IPAC 2018 Vancouver

Dit jaar is Nederland weer vertegenwoordigd met een stand op de IPAC in Vancouver Canada. Deze keer hebben we een gezamenlijke stand met de Deense ILO’s georganiseerd onder de kop: ‘Dutch&Danish Big Science Industry and BrightnESS’. De financiering van de stand is geregeld dankzij het Europese BrightnESS project. De International Particle Accelerator Conference wordt gehouden van 29 april t/m 4 mei 2018. Op zondag 29 april was de stand al aardig opgebouwd.
De IPAC is een jaarlijks terugkerende gebeurtenis die telkens in een ander werelddeel wordt gehouden en is voortgekomen uit de samenwerking van drie PAC's die elk in hun eigen werelddeel hadden.
Op bovenstaande foto zijn te zien van links naar rechts: Luc Vervoorn van Mat-Tech, Toon Verhoeven, de Nederlandse ILO voor ITER en ESS, Nikolaj Zangenberg, vertegenwoordiger van de Deense ILO’s en een gast.
1500 versnellerfysici en -ingenieurs uit alle hoeken van de wereld zijn een week lang neergestreken in Vancouver. Enkele daarvan ziet u op bovenstaande foto. Meer informatie kunt u op de officiële IPAC18 website vinden.
Woensdag was er een Industry Session met ook Nikolaj Zangenberg in het panel.
Op de foto hierboven geeft Nikolaj een schets van hoe het Big Science Business Forum onlangs in Kopenhagen een goed overzicht gaf van de mogelijkheden voor de industrie bij de verschillende Europese Big Science projecten.
Hierboven panellid Alberto Degiovanni, die ook de betrokkenheid van “External supplier” VDL ETG laat zien.

Title: Moving from Lab to Market: Global Models of Knowledge Translation and Commercialization in the Particle Accelerator Community

Panel Abstract: Moving innovation from the laboratory to the market is key to our long-term growth and prosperity. There are a number of organizations from regions around the globe – each with their own unique approach to fostering commercialization – enjoying successes in this area.
This panel discussion will bring together a group of leaders from high profile organizations from around the world who will talk about how they have moved innovation out of the lab and into industry. We will look at case studies and discuss the challenges, future opportunities and valuable lessons learned in advancing technologies from research to commercialization. The discussion will demonstrate that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for innovation, but rather a mosaic of models, which can provide a spectrum of opportunities to advance technologies into innovations that make an impact in the global community.

On the 24th of April, at the initiative of Ellen Ipenburg Tomesen, the Science and education Counsellor at the Netherlands Embassy to Germany, an event was organised to introduce the Einstein Telescope and its technological challenges to the industry representatives present at the Hannover Messe with the aim to increase the knowledge of the German companies about the possibility for them to become involved in solving the challenges to build the Einstein Telescope.
