ICSO conference
The 15th International Conference on Space Optics (ICSO 2024) took place from 21-25 October 2024 in Antibes, France, bringing together experts from around the world to explore advancements in optical, optoelectronic, and photonic technologies for space applications. Co-organized by ESA and CNES, the conference provided a dynamic platform for exchanging knowledge on research, development, qualification, and flight experience of optical technologies used in space missions.
The event featured plenary presentations, concurrent sessions, and an industry fair with 40 companies showcasing innovations in areas such as spectrometers, lasers, telescopes, detectors, fiber optics, and quantum communication. Key discussions highlighted lessons learned from past missions, advancements in photonic systems, and the growing role of quantum technologies in secure communications. Networking opportunities, including a welcome cocktail and a gala dinner, further facilitated collaboration among technology developers, mission experts, and commercial stakeholders.
ICSO 2024 underscored the pivotal role of optical technologies in shaping the future of space exploration. Participants emphasized the importance of scalable, high-precision systems, alongside emerging trends such as modular designs and cost-efficient optical components. The conference successfully bridged the gap between research and industry, fostering innovation and partnerships to address the challenges of future space missions. The next ICSO is planned for 2026.
