TEKNOWLOGY 2022 NWO Innovation Festival

At the fifth edition of the Teknowlogy Innovation Festival (https://www.teknowlogy.nl/)  one of the key themes was “connections”. This fit perfectly with the presence of colleagues of ASTRON (https://www.astron.nl/) and Nikhef (https://www.nikhef.nl/) showcasing the White Rabbit technology (https://white-rabbit.web.cern.ch/), a multi-laboratory, multi-company and multinational collaboration to develop a new technology that provides a versatile solution for control and data acquisition systems.
This technology is being used in timing applications for Big Science experiments such as the neutrino telescope KM3NeT (https://www.km3net.org/) to synchronise the timing of detectors in a large network of systems in which Nikhef is involved and at ASTRON it is used to distribute the clock signal across the LOFAR telescope (https://www.astron.nl/telescopes/lofar/), which has detector elements throughout Europe.
The innovative White Rabbit time distribution protocol as originated from scientific applications, now rapidly finds its way to societal/commercial applications like telecommunications and navigation systems.

Big Science in the 21st century event

This one-day event was organized by the Danish Technological Institute (DTI) and The European Spallation Source (ESS), the RI hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The program included keynote talks by decision makers in Big Science, the book launch of the book "Big Science in the 21st century" and the signing of an MoU between the Danish Technological Institute and ESS. DTI, the Danish equivalent of TNO, is coordinating the Danish ILO network.

We used the opportunity of this meeting to meet and talk to many persons about the BSBF2026.

 

Einstein Telescope EMR Forum

In the beautiful Solvay Library in Brussels, we had a very interesting day with an exciting program.

The Solvay Library in Brussels is a historic place, where Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Max Planck, Marie Curie and many other Nobel laureates measured up to each other during the mythical Solvay deliberations. April 10th 2024 featured the ET-EMR Forum, organized by the partners in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine:

-          POM Limburg and Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) for Flanders Belgium;

-          GRE Liège , University of Liège, Euregio Meuse-Rhine EGTC and Wallonie Entreprendre for Wallonia Belgium and;

-          NMWP and AGIT for North Rhine-Westphalia Germany

Information sessions for ET-NGF calls for ET-R&D projects.

Several workshops have been organized on the topics of the ET-NGF calls, where we invited industry to listen and discuss with an open mind the challenges and opportunities in the ET-R&D agenda. All sessions were visited by 20 to 40 participants, from several companies.
