RV Pelagia
Pelagia – for sea and ocean research
The research vessel (RV Pelagia) of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ)
The RV Pelagia is a flexible research vessel for multidisciplinary research expeditions. It can be operated on both the North Sea and the oceans.
Besides permanent dry and wet laboratories, the RV Pelagia provides space for nine 20-foot container laboratories. This allows the use of custom-built laboratories for specialised areas of marine research.
The RV Pelagia features an on-board computer network, modern navigation, meteorological instruments, a wide palette of research equipment and sensors. More information can be found at: https://www.nioz.nl/national-marine-facilities/research-vessels/RV-pelagia
New ocean research vessel in 2025
As part of the National Fleet Renewal project RV Anna Weber-van Bosse will be the successor of the Pelagia. NIOZ – Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research
Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) is the national oceanographic institute that serves as the national marine research facilitator (NMF) for The Netherlands scientific community. It principally performs and promotes academically excellent multidisciplinary fundamental, and frontier-creating applied marine research addressing important scientific and societal questions pertinent to the functioning of oceans and seas. The NIOZ-NMF vessel(s) and equipment for national marine research are maintained and exploited for the benefit of Dutch marine academia, applied research institutions, policymakers, NGOs, and industry in the widest possible sense.
